Canal Watering Holes: Alexandria Canal History and Pub Crawl
Join us on September 13th from 1pm-4pm for Canal Watering Holes: A History Tour and Canal Crawl.
NOTICe has partnered with some of Old Town North’s favorite bars and restaurants to present the history of the Alexandria Canal while enjoying a frosty beverage. Interestingly, three of the four participating restaurants are right on top of old canal!
The Alexandria Canal and the locations of the participating restaurants.
Each restaurant will feature exciting facts about the history of the canal and those that lived and worked around it.
St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub (Your Check-in Destination): Learn about Spa Spring, also known as Lover’s Lane.
MacMillian Spirit House: Learn about some of the people who lived and work along the Canal.
Hank’s Oyster Bar: Learn about the the Turning Basin and Fishtown.
Royal Restaurant: Learn about Portner’s Brewery, a favorite spot for workers after their shifts.
How Does the Canal Crawl Work:

Head to your first stop! The crawl can be done in any order you wish, just look for the Canal Crawl signs and History Guides wearing the Crawl T-Shirts.
Head into the restaurant and go to the bar. Show the bartender your passport and purchase your beverage. Each location will feature unique beers offered at a discount price. Not a beer drinker? Select wines and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
Your History Guide will tell you about history associated with this spot and stamp your passport.
