Harris Teeter

updated July 1, 2011

Current: The City Council at its June 25 meeting approved the Harris Teeter project. The current estimated completion date is autumn, 2013.

Note: A recent city/developer decision has responded to citizen input (via the URBAN DESIGN COMMITTEE) and resulted in agreement to move the HT loading dock from Pitt to St. Asaph Street. This should benefit Alexandria House residents inter alia.

A new Harris Teeter supermarket with pharmacy is proposed for most of the 700 block bounded by St Asaph and Pitt, and to the North, Madison. The structures on Wythe St. that block are relatively new, and would remain. The complex will have a complement of about 175 1- & 2-bedroom rental apartments above. Parking for all is provided underground on two levels. Presentation thru the Planning Commission and associated permission seeking are underway; a City Council hearing is likely by early fall 2011.
