  4. City of Alexandria Recognizes Upcoming CAN Parade of Homes

    Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille has presented a proclamation recognizing the Washington DC region’s first-ever regional “parade” of affordable communities on Saturday, May 18. An initiative of the Communications Action Network (CAN), the CAN Parade of Homes will feature 17 communities throughout the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland.

  5. Closing of Chinquapin Park Recreation Center Delayed to June 17

    The Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will close for day-to-day operations on Monday, June 17, to facilitate facility improvements. Staff continues to develop alternatives in providing programs and activities to minimize inconvenience to the community.

    Over the past nine months, over 585 Alexandria residents provided feedback on the City’s large parks, including Four Mile Run Park, Simpson Park, Chinquapin Park, Holmes Run Park System, Hensley Park, and Brenman/Boothe Parks. Park Planning staff has used the feedback develop draft plans for each Park.

  7. City Hosts 36th Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival

    The City of Alexandria will host the 36th Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival on Monday, May 27, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Waterfront Park, 1A Prince St. In case of inclement weather, the festival will be relocated to the Lee Center’s Kauffman Auditorium, 1108 Jefferson St. Admission is free.

    The public is invited to attend an information meeting to learn about upcoming improvements at Montgomery Park. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. and will be held on-site at the Montgomery Park gazebo, 901 N. Royal St.. The meeting will be hled rain or shine.

    The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard took top honors at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments annual honor guard competition on Saturday, May 4. The team finished in first place in the drill competition and was also named best dressed.

  13. Alexandria City Council Adopts $624.8M Fiscal Year 2014 Budget

    On May 6, the Alexandria City Council voted unanimously to pass a $624.8M budget for Fiscal Year 2014. The budget includes a 4 cent property tax increase and a 25-cent car tax increase. It also includes funding for current and future infrastructure, transportation, an increased transfer to ACPS, and keeping Warwick pool open.
