Board Meeting - May, 2011
Minutes
NOTICe Board of Directors
Monday, May 10, 2011
Home of Sally Ann Greer, 1168 North Pitt Street
Present: Sally Ann Greer, Ernie Lehmann, Greg Ogden, Tom Soapes, Christa Watters, Roger Waud
Absent: Ginny Hines Parry
- President’s Report: Roger Waud announced he will step down from the presidency of the NOTICe Board at the end of the May 19 Membership Meeting due to time pressures of serving as Co-Chair of the Federation of Civic Associations, as well as a member of UDAC and on the boards of Agenda Alexandria and the Mirant Monitoring Group. He has been president of NOTICe for 7 years. He has asked Vice President Sally Ann Greer to step in and take over until the next annual meeting/election, and she has agreed. Roger will remain on the board as an at-large member.
Roger also reminded board members of the City Council hearing on the Waterfront Plan slated for Saturday, May 14, and suggested that anyone interested should attend to make their opinion known.
- The minutes of the April 11, 2011 board meeting were unanimously approved.
- III.Treasurer Tom Soapes reported a current bank balance of $7,041.62.
- Membership: Tom reported 97 current paid up members. One new member sent in a form printed up from the Web site – a good sign. We will try to sign up more at the May 19 Membership meeting.
- V.May Membership Meeting: The meeting is set for Thursday, May 19, 7-9 p.m. at the Best Western Old Colony Inn.
A Program: Del. Adam Ebbin, Arlington School Board President Libby Garvey, and Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka, the 3 Democratic primary candidates for the Virginia Senate 36th District seat being vacated by Senator Patsy Ticer, will give presentations and take questions. Republicans were invited to participate but do not yet have announced candidates. Roger will be the MC/Moderator. Questions are to be submitted in writing.
B. Sally Ann Greer is organizing the food and drink.
C. Roger and Ernie are getting flyers printed. Greg, Ann Kaupp, Tom Soapes, Dave Wilcox, and Christa will help Roger distribute them.
- NOTICe Web Site: Greg Ogden confirmed that the site is now alive and active. He will put the newsletters up. We all agreed to have blind e-mail addresses usable through the site. We discussed using the site to contact all members. We will keep the organization’s bylaws and other important documents on a portion of the site accessible only by the board. Some sections still need updating and finalizing. We should regard the site as a work in progress, with our Web Master, Greg, being open to suggestions for further links and updates. Sally Ann asked that the map of North Old Town, as per the City’s small area plan boundaries, be reinstated as part of the Web site and the board agreed. Members may come from outside the boundaries, but for official purposes, those are our boundaries.
- NOTICe By-laws: Tom will look at the by-laws and suggest any necessary corrections or changes, as he has experience with writing by-laws for nonprofit groups. Once we have his proposals, we can move on from there. All agreed that a correct, typo-free version should be posted online.
- VIII.The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Christa Watters, Secretary
