Board Meeting - November 2011
MINUTES
NOTICe Board of Directors
Monday, November 14, 2011
Home of Christa Watters
Present: Sally Ann Greer, Ginny Hines Parry, Ernie Lehmann, Greg Ogden, Tom Soapes, Christa Watters, Roger Waud.
President Sally Ann Greer called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m.
The minutes of the September 7 meeting will be presented next time. Draft copies of the September Community Meeting were submitted for comment and correction.
Treasurer’s Report: Tom Soapes reported that the balance on hand is $6,923.11.
Membership: Tom reported that we have 80 paid members, with 38 still unpaid as we look toward the coming year.
Web site: Greg Ogden reported that:
The minutes are up and will be kept current. Those from the current year will be visibly available on the site; previous years will be archived from now on.
By January we will be able to e-mail through the Web site if we desire. He will bring the issue before the board in January before going active with that plan.
He will put NOTICe’s articles of incorporation and our 501(c)(3) documents online.
A Web site is only as good as its content and currency. Each of us needs to stay current on the issues we adopted as ours and post new information to the Web site through Greg as it becomes available.
Candidates for the Board for next year: Roger and Sally Ann reported on discussions with potential candidates for the board to be presented for election at the December Annual Meeting. The current board members will run again except for Sally Ann Greer and Ginny Hines Parry, hence we need two new candidates. Potential candidates are: Frances Zorn of Alexandria House, Mike Mendoza of Marina Towers Finance Committee, and Steve Rudkin of 900 No. Washington Street. Sally Ann and Roger will keep us posted on the search.
New Building Developments: Sally Ann reported that the Printer’s Row building project at the corner of 3rd Street and North Royal is going forward after being on hold for some years due to the economy. It will be 4-level town houses starting at $750,000 and ranging to $1 million. Ernie reported that the power plant has not been operating since the agreement to close was announced in August.
Community Meeting Dec. 8: The meeting will start with a half hour social and then a brief business meeting to elect the new board. Councilman Fannon will speak for 10-15 minutes and then take questions. The board will prepare some starter questions and ask members to develop questions for him as well. Greg and Tom will help with license and room leasing for the party. Sally Ann and Christa will get the food. A flyer will be put out and e-mailed. Tom will create a ballot and bring the eligible member list and he and Roger will prepare and print out proxies and e-mail them to members. Ginny will count ballots and bring pens, as well as helping to collect audience questions.
New Business: The November/December issue of Take Notice was published and distributed. Patrick Stelmark of Sierra Club wants to present to the board. This issue was deferred to the January meeting and the new board.
Adjournment/Next meeting: The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Christa Watters, Secretary
